  Sometimes everything happens at once..... I've missed blogging and missed being behind my camera. Our household is sick, it seems to be a trend during the winter. As much as I am not a fan of being puked on, coughing, nebulizer machines, hundreds of dollars of perscriptions, and countless trips to the doctors in bloody freezing temperatures, I am a fan of all the cuddling, chicken noodle soup and smoothies, having warm kiddos fall asleep on me and my big bed full of little ones. Hopefully we are all back to our crazy selves soon, i'm sure we will be.
   My beautiful daughter has turned six....... I know us mamas say it all the time but it seems like yesterday that I was bringing her home from the hospital, where does the time go? On the same day that Gracie turned six, my little brother and Chandelle celebrated the birth of their first son, Deegan Lee. He made his big entrance a few weeks early and already we all love him to bits..... I can hardly wait to get my hands on him and photograph the little man.
   We are all missing Daddy and anxiously awaiting spring break up, road bans and to have him home for a big stretch, we have a few trips planned and I can hardly wait...
   I promise to have some new pictures to share soon, in the meantime here is one from a couple years ago, when to tell you the truth I didn't really know what I was doing. It is still one of my favorite images to this day, go figure......

I am a big fan of Love Day.... okay I admit there is a definite element of cheese associated with the holiday, however the concept of celebrating love is beautiful! I wish there was a love day every month, it's an excuse to go out for supper, spoil your special lady and the kiddos of course and to celebrate love...... after all love makes the world go round. I shot these yesterday totally last minute....... I will be posting more tonight of the kiddos! Thank you Brittany for letting me dress you up and for letting me defy gravity with your hair!!!

Reflecting 365 ~ 2010

Time is a bit of a tricky concept to grasp..... No matter what it just keeps on ticking, some days are so lovely we'd love that they could last forever and then there are days that can't go by fast enough. Our babies keep growing no matter how much we'd like to have them stay little and birthdays that we ourselves couldn't conceive celebrating...... have been celebrated. It's just the way it goes, like it or not, time is passing and the older we grow the faster time passes. It has been a busy beautiful year and when I look back on it, it's no wonder it's a bit blurry...... life with 3 little ones and two, 2 year olds (need I say more). There is much to be thankful for and many highlights to look back upon with fondness, here are a few.....

Grace Lily stepped onto a big yellow bus, and I stood at the end of the driveway with tears in my eyes (My first baby to have a first day of school...sigh!) I celebrated and entered my 3rd decade and honestly i've never felt better! I traded in my mama minivan for a white MDX and although not the most practical decision, I love it! That same day we bought a camper and we attempted camping.... we'll get better! Shawn and I committed to making more time for each other and have went for many beautiful date nights. VEGAS with the ladies. A couple trips to Vancouver/Seattle . The first of many missing teeth (not mine thankfully). Potty training twins.... can get a little messy! Philosophy now has a small studio!! Many wonderful sessions and weddings, i'm pinching myself. Just a few years having a photography business and studio seemed like a lovely daydream. And then there are the moments that play in my memory like a slow motion movie, the really special times, holding tiny hands, circling round and round, singsong, lullaby, giggling tickles, rosy cheeks, bright eyes, singing in the car, rides in laundry baskets......those are the ones that I truly, truly cherish. With that being said it has been 365 days to be thankful for and celebrate. In no particular order here are a few pictures of my little family that warm my heart....... Wishing you all the best in 2011!

On December 23 I had the pleasure of meeting a beautiful couple and documenting their fairytale wedding. Janessa and Leigh were probably the most relaxed bride and groom that i've met to date which made them fantastic to work with during the short window of time we had with light. I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story......kind of makes you want to get married all over again in winter.......

I don't know about you all but this time of year seems to get stressful, it's busy everywhere, people forget their manners and get aggresive and the deadlines are daunting. At the same time it's lovely.... when you see folks volunteering, baking and my favorite of all the kiddos.....the questions they ask, the reactions to the decorations lights and the big dude in red and the pure amazement alive and almost twinkling in their eyes. That's what it's all about....... so if you are feeling a little blue, overwhelmed or fed up have a look at this beautiful little girl and I guarantee you will feel better. Isn't she a doll!!!

Meet Nathan, he is super sweet and has gorgeous creamy skin and light blue eyes, and has just celebrated his first birthday ( I was priveleged to watch his first cake tasting!!!) Meet Nathan's Mom & Dad, they love hime to bits, isn't it obvious!!! I know I say it all the time, but i'm gonna say it again. I feel honored every time somebody chooses me and trusts in me to represent their children, families and the special times in their life through images. It has been almost 3 weeks since my last entry....yikes! Life seems to get so incredibly busy at this time of year, between school, sickness and sessions I tell ya. At the very top of my Christmas wishlist is to have some lovely person come and clean my house once a week..... ahhhhh that would be glorious and oh the work I could get done (the fun work).

The Armitage crew is just as busy as we are with 3 little ones so it's always a blast when we get together..... the middle child Haiden is soooo busy, Rori (the oldest) has a super kind heart and is such a sweetheart and the little man, well we don't really know yet, he seems pretty chilled to me. Thank you guys for patiently waiting for this post.

The cutest little kiddos have been coming to see me and Austen was no exception! We had this session the day before his first birthday and it's the absolute perfect time to do a session...... most kids aren't quite walking yet (this is a huge help) and they are so full of curiosity, innocence and a little drool!!! Whitney and Rob are married and I was lucky enough to be their photographer! I just wanted to share a quick story..... moments before the bridal party was arriving in the limo, Rob ran up to me in a bit of a panic, Mandi he said, do you have any kleenex, I want to make sure I have some in case Whitney needs them during the ceremony...... sigh.....I ran to my vehicle and grabbed the box for him just as the limo was pulling up. If that's not love I don't know what is. I had a fantastic time with all you guys and feel lucky to have been a part of your special day! Congrats! Hello friends,

Holy moly it's been busy and I am getting behind. I have to tell you guys about my weekend, not to complain just in hopes that you will have a chuckle at my expense....... It began on Thurs. evening when my septic alarm went off..... keep in mind that my husband is at work 6 hours away! Shawn had supposedly fixed the pump but Shawn is a driller not a plumber so it didn't surprise me that the alarm went off. When I called him in a bit of a panic he assured me it would be ok and a plumber would come on Saturday but advised me not to use much water until then. Friday evening my son threw up through the night...... every time I changed his bedding and jammies, as pile of pukey laundry was building up, hmmmmm..... can't do wash until the septic situation is sorted. It's a good thing I have a sinus infection and can't smell a thing. Some serious liquified b.m 's began the next and the next night Max began puking....... I am now running on little to no sleep and praying that Grace and I aren't next. Thankfully the virus was 24 hour and the plumber came and we were back on track. Monday morning I walked Grace out to the bus....warm chai latte in hand and the beautiful crispness of the morning felt great, spirit renewed I felt optimistic about the day and week ahead. As I walked back to the house and saw my cute boys through the window, I went to open the front door only to discover it was locked. You know those moments when you feel like crying but don't quite have the energy.... that's where I was. I tried communicating the technique to unlock the door through the seal but only the handle moved about. It was no use, I gave up and so did they Smith decided that now would be a great time to have some M&M cookies and Max began to cry ( I couldn't see Max) however Smith proudly ate his cookies in front of the window, as though to say tome me there is not a thing you can do lady! 30 minutes later Edie comes to the rescue key in hand (praise the lord) and rescued Max out of the pitch black bathroom that he had locked himself in. I don't know that I have ever dressed them so fast and rushed them off to dayhome as I desperately needed a day off... I hope that you are laughing!

Onto the goodness of Cheylyn and Adam who are extremely photogenic by the way. I am so excited for their wedding it's going to be fab! You two are such a perfect couple and congrats on the engagement!

I had a hard time keeping up to this little 15 month old, once they get they walking papers they are off! It's almost as though they need to make up for the many months of stillness! These girls are absolutely awesome, not only can they rock it in heels and dresses they also rock it in their sneakers on the soccer field. That is one of the coolest things about being a girl. With some make up and a curling iron and 30 minutes you can transform yourself. Some say it's a curse, I say it's a blessing! I had so much fun helping my beautiful sister and her friend get ready for their Shine fashion show that I kind of felt like a teenager again, almost, until I heard my now 2 year old twins in a rumble...LOL! The girls are donning gorgeous dresses from the super swanky Calypso Bay Clothing, and Mia (in purple) is wearing a little Stella & Dot around her neck! I didn't get to see them in action at the fashion show but i'm glad for the time we had.......... we only had 5 minutes to do a few quick shots, thankfully these 2 were pros!!! Shine on........

I have the best clients ever...... I wanted to take the opportunity to thank my fabulous clients who keep sending me referrals. Referrals are such a huge part of my business and truthfully my best advertisement. Isn't love grand! I love observing the quiet moments between people, like the way that Paul swooped Selah out of the truck and carried her to the steps, and as they signed the marriage documents they pressed their heads together. There were plenty of beautiful gestures that showed their love for one another throughout the day and it's always a pleasure to witness and be around two people so fond of one another. I know I say it all the time but I genuinely love what I do, I am privileged to share in some of the most important days of peoples lives. It was not so long ago that I photographed the wedding of now Mom and Dad!! I will never forget their special day as it was the first wedding I photographed here in Prince Albert after moving from Calgary, although I was a total newcomer on the scene these two went out of their way to make me feel welcome. Now they are blessed with a beautiful baby girl and again I felt so privileged to capture such a super special time in their lives. This family is so photogenic and gorgeous that my job was easy as pie! Onto the pictures....... meet Miss Mya , 13 days old, lovely!!!

Since this session the temperature has dropped and we are sitting at a balmy -30 degrees and there is snow on the ground. That will give you an indication of how far behind that i've gotten with the business of November, but I am relieved to say that I am almost caught up and won't be spending my holidays behind the computer...whew! I adore this down to earth family and loved spending the afternoon with them, they even fed me lunch before I left, I have the best clients!! I photographed Miss E (the little one) when she was pretty fresh and am going to dig up one of the shots so you can see how she has changed in such a short period of time. She is 10 months and walking....blows my mind. Miss N. is such a love and gave me a proper tour of the property and introduced me to the cats!! Mom makes the most amazing cakes that I have seen and Dad enjoys flying in his plane. Such a beautiful family. Enjoy the sneak peek!!

Max & Max ??? ~ Prince Albert Photographer

The boys seem to think that they are both Max, it's the funniest thing! They wonder around looking for each other and calling out Ma-a (Max)!!! They are now 18 months and all I can say is wow they are busy!! The only time their little bodies stop moving at full tilt is when they are sleeping, which thank goodness they are good sleepers or i'd be in big trouble. Maybe it's a twin thing, maybe it's a boy thing, I haven't got a clue........ someday they will slow down......right??

While everyone was watching the grey cup game last weekend here is what I was doing. Thanks to Aunt B. for helping me out, the effort was so worth it. Now I know that i'm a tad biased being their mama and all but come on don't they look like little Gap models! The first picture is Max and the last 2 are of Smith (Max 2!).

This gorgeous little one comes from Alberta and is the fourth child for Mom and Dad!! She melted my heart from the moment I laid eyes on her and I must say we bonded during her session........ did I mention how much I love babies!!! Mom is an absolutely amazing lady and makes having 4 kids look easy peasy! They also run dog kennels outside of Calgary and are absolutely incredible with animals, so if anyone in the Calgary area is looking be sure to check out the link, your pooch would be well taken care of and loved!! Holly & Robb ~ A Halloween Wedding

This was such a fun wedding that I know I will never forget! As we headed to our outdoor location for pictures, it was windy, snowy and cold! Through it all Holly stood outside in her strapless dress with a smile on her face and her new husband by her side and I think that speaks volumes about the kind of people that Holly and Robb are! Thank you guys for toughing it out through the cold, it was definitely well worth it and I love the winter look of the pictures! I was so excited when asked to do this session for a few reasons, I genuinely adore this family {Miss Peyton is surrounded by love} and when Mom gets behind my camera it's like magic!! You may recognize her from my blog header!! In these photos Peyton is almost 7 weeks and just under 7 pounds of pure loveliness, I could have photographed her all day! I really don't think this session could have went smoother than it did! When I arrived the 3 little ones were snoozing which gave me an oppurtunity to work with mom and dad and the oldest sister...... in perfect silence! Mom I give you credit, to get 3 children to nap at the same time is no easy task! You guys are such a lovely family and so very blessed, thanks for welcoming me into you beautiful home (with great light) and for the glimpse into your lives, the similarities to my own are almost eerie! On a side note after looking and working on these photos I would almost bet that the boys are identical!

It's always a treat to photograph and hang out with these wonderful people. Some of my all time favorite pictures that are on my website are of this family. Mom and I have been friends forever and it has been a beautiful experience to grow along side such a great girl. We have been through many phases together and have a tendency to bring out the mischievous sides of each other. Now we have entered a lovely phase of motherhood, babies and married life. Things have sure changed but we still have all the crazy memories to discuss over coffee. Here a a few of my favorites from our time together on such a beautiful fall day. I am one lucky lady! Every time I look at the beautiful pictures of us all together and the 4 people that mean more to me than words can describe I am reminded of how very lucky and blessed that I am. I never could have dreamed up a more wonderful existence than the one that has unraveled as my life.

It wasn't hard for me to choose a photographer at all! I knew from the moment that I met Bonnie it would be her. She is not only talented but she is so kind giving and generous. When I photograph my children I am always after a certain shot. The best way to describe it would be a soulful gaze or stare. I want one shot of each of my kids, THE SHOT, and I'll know when I get it. In pursuit of my gaze shot I have gotten many other great ones and sometimes a picture really, really pulls at my heartstrings. The first picture here of Grace does just that, when I look at the pure happiness on her face I can almost hear her laughing, it's just her and it's lovely. So as I write this entry I am reminded that it's great to have dreams and goals but the moment, the now is a pretty precious place to be.

I know it's been a while since my last post buttttttt I have excuses...... good ones! My first excuse is that I was away in Edmonton and attended the Sandy Puc, Bellies & Babies Seminar, which was fantastic. I can hardly wait to try out some of the posing and lighting techniques! My other excuse is i'm feeling a bit limited with my blog and my little pictures..... I check out other photog's blogs and drool over the big pictures. Needless to say I am shopping around for a new blog, if anyone has suggestions i'd love to hear em! Okay so excuses aside I picked up the boys some new hats from H&M and well they are just too cute in their new hats. If you look closely at the first picture you'll notice something white in Smith's mouth, it's a little marshmallow, I had to put them on the chair in order to get stillness for a moment. This stage is so tricky to photograph, they just don't stop movin!!

I love macro photography, for me it's a reminder of the absolute stunning beauty that we are so lucky to be surrounded by. When you take a close look at the intricate details of a flower or a plant it's truly amazing. Sometimes we all need to stop and take in the amazingness that is nature, for me it's through my lens. Now I really need to invest in a tripod because I never use one, it's amazing my macro shots come out even close to sharp as I am breaking the number one rule. Here is a shot of a sunflower getting ready to bloom in our garden, well half of one to add a creative twist.

Children are so spontaneous, I love it! Now don't get me wrong the posed pictures can be sweet but hands down my favorite shots are always the ones that they just do, the tricky part is being ready for it. These pictures of Grace started a bit of an obsession of getting shots of people jumping {just ask my last few shoots}. Sometime the results are brilliant sometimes hilarious, but it's always a bit of a surprise to see how they've turned out. Here is my little G in a dress I scored at Superstore for 7$! I have to brag about the deal cause usually I can never find cute stuff for cheap!

Aside from being super friendly and easy going here are a few reasons why the Zawislak's are such a cool family. Each and every one of them knows how to work it for the camera..... even their two dogs looked on cue!! I once heard that the strongest form of communication is non verbal and I believe it to be true. The way that Alison looks at Steven and the way that Steven's face lights up in Alison's presence, for me, sums up the special love that they share. On July 18 Lisa and I had the privilege of documenting a beautiful day and meeting some really great people. You were all an absolute joy to work with and made our job so much fun! My excitement level has been comparable to that of a seven year old on Christmas morning who just received the BEST gift ever! A few days ago I received confirmation that my new camera had arrived. Moments later I headed out with my entourage {the kids} to pick it up. As the lady handed me my box, which was quite large, I realized that I had a bit of a situation. The twins in the double stroller and G by my side, how in the world was I going to carry the box through the parking lot and to the van?? I tried to cram it in the basket underneath the stroller, wasn't happening. I was beginning to feel flustered as I stood there with my 3 little ones and my big box and a line of people behind me who seemed to be entertained by my dilemma. I ended up balancing the box on the sunshade of the stroller with one hand and pushing the boys with the other all the while keeping my eyes on G as we trudged through the parking lot, nothing could stop me! But honestly people, next time you see someone balancing a box on a twin stroller, please..... offer to help instead of staring in awe and making comments such as "You've sure got your hands full"....... no kidding!! As for the camera, it's a dream and here are the first pictures i'm posting taken with my new toy. The first is Max, i'm blowing this one up for sure but black and white or colour?? The second is Smith and apparently Shawn has some baby pictures doing the tongue thing as well.

The Rewards....

Some might say that being a mother is the hardest job there is. Now don't get me wrong I have my days too, when things get chaotic and everyone is crying at once it can get overwhelming. However I do believe that the rewards that come along with motherhood are far greater than any other job! Every morning I awake to three of the most beautiful faces that I have ever seen, then there are the grins, the cheeky looks, the cuddles and smooshy kisses. Having a little one fall asleep in your arms..... ahhhh, nothing compares. Now I could go on and on for pages but I just had to share this one. The other day G asked me if she could go outside to pick me some flowers.... does it get sweeter than that?? As I watched her from the window she looked so small. I ran to grab the camera and am glad that I did. Check out her outfit she put it all together!!

Would you guess that these pictures were taken in a living room?? Kurt and Tanya literally transformed their living room into a studio for the evening {thanks guys!!!}. I'm kicking myself for not taking a behind the scenes shot so you could get the idea. This was my first time shooting with lights and I must say that I love the results! Now i'm daydreaming of setting up a studio!! The first picture I can't put into words why I like it so much.... I just do. Once upon a time.....

Once upon a time there was a little girl {me} who sat on her bed and sobbed. Now you may be wondering has her dog ran away or has her turtle died?? No not the case here, her tears were falling over a heather grey jumpsuit that she had just received as a special gift from her mom. There was nothing wrong with the jumpsuit, in fact it was perfectly appropriate for a girl her age, however the little girl dreamt of other attire which involved tassel cowboy boots and jean skirts! It was from that day on that the little girls mom let her choose her own attire and loved and supported her through all of her fashion stages!

I told you this story so that you could understand how much fashion has and always will be {sorry Shawn} a part of me. I believe that I was simply born that way. So if you find me ranting and raving over fashion this and fashion that you will understand!! Mom I am so sorry if I hurt your feelings over the outfit, now looking back it all seems so silly yet I can clearly remember how very real it was for me then.

From the moment I saw this dress online at Shopbop {very dangerous!!} I LOVED everything about it, it's ethereal quality, the colour and the overall airiness. When I found it on sale at Sak's it was over, the dress was going to be mine!! Now if only I could afford the Jimmy Choo's to go with it.... a girl can always dream!! Here is my Nanette Lepore Butterfly Net Dress {I even love the name!!}, followed by a picture of yours truly donning it for the first time. Thanks to Kurt for taking this shot of me.

Country Fun

There is an innocence that I believe only children posses and this is why I adore observing them, playing with them and photographing them. To observe a child deeply engaged in play is a beautiful thing. The following photos are from the year end field trip to Country Fun. The kids had a blast checking out the animals, mini golfing and riding the train. From my observation they seemed happiest just playing at the playground. The more I look at these photos a stillness or quietness becomes apparent . Also wanting to send a huge thanks out to the lovely ladies at Wee Care Preschool for organizing such great adventures for our little ones. Here are the kids..... just doing their thing!

Today has been one of those days where the routine is thrown out the window and we simply go with the flow. Normally the twins eat, sleep and play at the same times...... not today! Smith decided that he didn't really need a nap this morning. When he finally did crash Max and I had some time together so I threw on some Babylegs and grabbed my camera. When I think back to this day it makes me giggle. I convinced my sister to come along as a model and the next thing you know she is up in a tree looking all glamorous while six of us photographed her paparazzi style. I kept thinking to myself I wonder what she's thinking!! Brittany you did fantastic and thanks again for coming, I hope that you love these pictures! I loved the diversity of this location and want to thank the Northern Image Photo Group for inviting me to come along, it was my first time shooting with a group and I must say that it was just as interesting watching everyone do their thing. First and foremost I want to thank this lovely couple for suggesting such a great location. I had never been out this way and will definitely be back. It was such a beautiful night and I thoroughly enjoyed this session. These two are very much in love and I adore how it translates to the photos. Sneak Peek Brittany

A few days ago I joined the Northern Image Photography Club for an excursion to a farm with one bad ass willow tree and miniature ponies. There were so many great spots to shoot I almost didn't know where to begin!! Thank you to Brittany and my Gracie for coming along as models, you two were absolutely fantastic. I awoke this morning with a strange feeling inside. I thought back to a year ago this very day and can clearly remember holding two little bundles swaddled in white, one baby A the other baby B. 12 short months later two little guys with massive personalities stand unsteadily before me. And so today as we celebrate this first birthday I am filled with pride yet have a tear in my eye. It has been a beautiful, blissful and slightly blurry first year and I am beyond thankful for all of the lovely moments.
